Recovering from Ashtanga sessions

How can I speed up my recovery from Ashtanga sessions? I usually experience delayed onset muscle soreness for a long time, in hamstrings especially it can last for 5 days. Aside from obvious things, such as long good sleep and healthy nutrition, what else you found helpful?

Thank you very much!

Take your session gradually and be patient.
Understand and accept your limitations.
Do only what is possible and in moderate way.
Don’t compete.

Umesh’s answer is the best answer to the larger question which you have not articulated. And so I agree wholeheartedly.

That having been said I also know that people are odd ducks, do strange things in strange ways with strange approaches AND that often “careless” provides the best learning, usually through suffering.

Point? The OP is likely going to do it anyway so we might as well do what Sai Baba said … “give them what they want until they want what we have to give”.

For recovery you can take warm epsom salt baths, increase your hydration by putting something IN your water and reducing or eliminating things that move water out (diuretics like coffee), put something on the muscles topically - maha vishgarbha, sesame oil, olive oil sunbreeze oil etc., and make sure you are appropriate supplementing your diet.

I can relate to the hamstring soreness. I am having that problem also. Going to try to up my water intake. I do know I tend to be dehydrated and i forget to drink water. I waited 4 days last week to see if it helped and it really didn’t. If you identify what helps you ease hamstring soreness please let me know. I haven’t tried the epsom salts.
