Hi everyone
Im just new to yoga, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest music that I could listen to, something relaxing but to also keep my mind focused.
I often feel that my head is full of stresses which affect my concentration.
thanks

Hello Sallyn
I’m brand new to this site (5mins!) I’m abit biased but as I practice (notice I did’nt say play as I’m self taught) classical guitar I find that a powerfull relaxant.
Along with yoga, I also expanded into Tai-Chi, which I consider
very simular.
I listen to the same music for both of these practices.
The music I listen to is performed by the" Silk Orchestra"
It is very relaxing and some of the music is great
for breathing medication. You can go to google search
engine for more info. {This is just my own humble opinion}
P.S. You article site on yoga and my own site in my signature are
very, very simular. You are from the U.K. and I am from the U.S.
It really is a small world after all
Hello, thankyou both for your comments.
I will try both types of music, not usually my normal listening, I prefer Britney or the Sugar Babes lol
Yes our sites are the lovely adsense generating ones, allegedly.

Hi,
I am a Gayatri Upasak. According to my experience, if you focus on rising golden sun, think that you are sitting in front of a rising golden sun and all the rays are falling on you energizing you physically as well as mentally for 10 - 20mins regularly, this will help you a lot.
If possible think of Gayatrimantra whose daity is sun during this time.
Please let me know if you need further information.

I am looking for some music recommendations. I know music is one of those things that some people don’t approve of during asana practice. I find it helps me concentrate better while doing asana. It just kind of covers-up the noise distractions of life.
What I am specifically looking for right now, is something a bit faster paced for doing Surya Namaskar. I need something to help me quicken them up, make them more into a prana raising practice and less of a relaxation practice.
I also really love music which has both english and sanskrit in it. So if anyone can think of anything, I would be really really greatful!
I know it’s not what you are asking for… but I’ll write it anyway…
for me it’s not really how fast I do surya namaskar that makes it more “pranaraising” it’s when I’m really involved in what I’m doing. Quality versus quantity!
Learn the bija mantras - they are really excellent - but don’t exaggerate for they generate an enormous amount of energy. After each and every sun salutation stop, close your eyes LISTEN to your body and feel the energy, I find it’s really this listening that frees even more energy.
Paradoxically (perhaps) after 12 repetitions a good 20 mins of shavasana increases and spreads the energy in the whole body and can avoid muscle tightening.
The more relaxed we are the more energy we have

This music is good when you are doing Hatha Yoga.
I also like some middle eastern music when doing yoga.
Nada Records puts out some good authentic world music albums.
…india, middle eastern etc…
Weishan Liu and Liu Fang put out good music for yoga, depending on what kind of Yoga you are doing that day.
These albums are available on CD Baby, Cd Universe and Amazon.com.

I have visited local Indian and Tibet stores. You can find great CD’s there with music for meditation, like Mystic India, Tantric Choir from Tibet, and many others.
Hi Sally,
I just started doing yoga myself! As for the music, I play classical and jazz music which calms me down. My favorites are Bach and Beethoven. While I listen to the music, I think of a happy place to clear my mind from any stress and disturbances.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thought this might be interesting to share. I was reading on another post and one of the users had a link to a site with classical music. The music is great and it’s very calming. It’s spamagazinemusic.com Hope you enjoy it!
I listen to ABBA while practising yoga. It is my favorite music, so why not?
I just bought a “Music for Yoga” CD and love it! I heard that you should try not to play music with lyrics because they can be distracting.
I just bought the “Music for Yoga” CD and really like it…
Krishna Das is great too!
I love listening to Krishna Das while I do my sun salutations! It is pretty fast paced and just beautiful music with tamtam in it. He is really great and a wonderful discovery for anyone who does Yoga. If you can see him in concert you will have chills.
Deva Premal is also really great
Shantala is a group that puts out some of my favorite yoga music. I especially like their albums “Sri” and “The Love Window”. There are songs of varying tempos on each CD, so you can groove to some of them and get super sweet lovey right into your heart as well.
Enjoy!
Does anyone have a recommendation on what to listen to while practicing?
