RSD (or CRPS)

Hi Mukunda
At the YMCA where I teach, I was given the name and number of a woman whose 13-yr old daughter has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. I am familiar with this disorder from working in the pain clinic at the hospital and know that it is commonly treated with regualr exercise and physical therapy. But I am unfamiliar with what direction to go with yoga (i.e. energetic imbalances to look for as well as physical yoga asana). I have not yet spoken to the mother, so I do not know where the pain is located, how intense or duration. I wanted to just see if you could point me in some direction (either books or chapters to consult, or from your experience) to prepare me in speaking to the mother. Thanks.
Namaste,
Amanda

I am unfamiliar with this so i would recommend that you seek advice from one of the physical therapists who are familiar with Yoga Therapy. One suggestion is to contact Matt Taylor, PT site www.yogatherapy.com/yogatopics.htm Another alternative is Leslie Kaminoff and inquire through his associates for someone familiar with this condition. he can be contacted at esutra-service@lists.esutra.com

AS a Structural yoga Therapist i use range of motion and muscle testing to give assessments and recommednations on the physical level. As a Yogi i am trained to read the pranic and Ayurvedic dosha imbalances of each individual and using that as my assessment procedure give recommendations to correct the subtle imbalanes. Without having a yogic based assessment procedure one must follow standard western medical protocols. namasate mukunda
