hello good people,
i saw on tv these people ingesting salt water to clean their windpipes, and digestive system, they then either vomited it back up or let it out like they had laxatives.
Afterward they said they felt cleaner inside,
i want to try this out, but im not sure in what quantities the salt has to be in etc…
if anyone knows about this ?? please
Namaste AirWeaver,
In Yoga, this is one of 6 Shatkarmas which are purification practices. These practices are best learned directly from an instructor who has had personal experience with them and their effects, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and energetically. They should also be able to support you in your process. I would not recommend doing these practices without proper guidance and intention.
The ingestion of salt water and subsequent cleanse of the digestive tract is not unique to Yoga, however. It is also a practice which the ancient Hawaiians used in their traditional healing. Salt water is a substance which is soothing to the interior of the body (the body’s composition being similar to the ocean). Interestingly, one can view the human body as a donut. The digestive tract from mouth to anus being the central tube… (just threw that one in for your reflection - are you your digestive tube?)
There are other Yogic practices which also purify the “guts” and don’t require vomiting - for example Agni Sar Dhouti and Nauli. Again, these practices are not intended for the weekend yogi who is looking for a work out, but are deeper practices which aim to cleanse the self on various levels and are best done with the support and supervision of an experienced guide.
Namaste,
Chandra
I used to do that and it works very well-Buddha Blasts- as someone termed it- be sure to get adequate amounts of water during the day. The reason salt is bad for most people( some are salt sensitive-but that’s a minority ) is that peolple usually don’t balanced out increased salt with increased water. I heard a report that there are more problems with cellular drowning than dehydration in the Boston Marathon,as people overdo water and sweat out their salts. There are websites devoted to this-one fairly well off owner of 3 pharmacies in Penn. spends thousands of dollars promoting it. I went to that website years ago. I quit because, besides being very regular and fairly clean inside ( I am a vegan pretty much ) I was tired of having to urinate every 20 or 30 minutes until noon. Difficult on long trips. Namaste
Another good salt water purification is to go down to the sea side.
Dive in and dive under three times, hold your breath for two of them…on the third inhale deeply and stay under.
Purification perfection
shankprakshalana twice a year keeps the doctor away... this is the complete cleansing process of the whole tract,
since many many diseases start right in the colon probably good to do once in a while!
The worst part about it is drinking the salty water ---- yuck!
Then there are 5 exercises to do between glasses.. all on the link below..
I copied the CONTRAINDICATIONS here before I post the link to the procedure
The contraindications for SHANK PRAKSHALANA are not many: the people who suffer from severe stomach ulcer must refrain and wait to heal before practicing the technique. The people who suffer from acute illnesses of the digestive tube: dysentery, diarrhea, acute colitis, acute appendicitis or serious illnesses as intestinal tuberculosis or cancer must not practice. The cases of chronic colitis can be alleviated, though, by SHANK PRAKSHALANA outside the crisis periods. SHANK PRAKSHALANA should not be practised during pregnancy or menstruation, if one has a big kidney or gallbladder stone, weak kidneys, chronic diabetes, hernia. These contraindications are not absolute. In India there are cases of dysentery healed completely by SHANK PRAKSHALANA in the yogi’s hospitals, even in the cases of patients who had been treated for months with classical methods, without healing. SHANK PRAKSHALANA is very efficient in completing the treatment of intestinal parasites. The entire content of the intestine being evacuated, the parasites and their eggs are also trained outside.
I do it at least once a year and find it very effective
The exact concentration of salt, and the dietary advice after it’s practice is also important.
Salt water works by using the phenomenon of osmosis, body fluids being drawn out, thus a deeper inner cleansing is induced. For this, the concentration of salt needs to be a little higher than the salinity of body fluids.
Other “beverages” can be used to perform shank prakshalana - decoctions, diluted vegetable juices and so on - to achieve various therapeutic effects.
I found that after reaching a balanced diet, the need for performing practices of this magnitude diminishes.
I’d advise for a a well guided application of this procedure.
