Q - Is there a specific yoga therapy for sciatica?
Yes. I have addressed this questions many times and you can get a more specific response by going to the archives of Q & A located at www.yogaforums.com and search for sciatica. In general one should avoid forwards bends that includes prolonged sitting over one hr., and stretches of the external hip rotators on the side involved. Therapeutic asanas are those to stretch the groin (adductors) and hip flexors (above the quadriceps to include the psoas and rectus femoris). In addition i find that drinking lots of water (half gallon minimum) is most helpful as many of the sufferers are dehydrated.
