Setting up a hot yoga studio

Hi, I am thinking about setting up my own yoga studio here in the UK. I have been practising Bikram for a number of years now and been teaching a different form of hot yoga for about a year. I have always been involved in running my own businesses, so have good business knowledge and feel I have identified a good area to start a studio and would love to combine my love of yoga with my business side. I intend to do the Bikram teaching training at the end of the year and set a bikram studio up early 2013.

I have been trying to price things up a little and looking for a little advice?

How much does it cost to install the heating equipment needed in a hot yoga room?
How much does it cost to install showers and changing facilities?
How much do the bills for heating and water come to?
How often do the studio carpets need cleaning to combat the smell of sweat etc?

I know all answers can be quite different depending on size, location etc, but changing and showering facilities will be of a standard size and the yoga room will be to fit a maximum of 50 people.

Sorry if these questions have been posted elsewhere, but just been looking online for answers and not been able to find much until coming across this forum. Thanks in advance for any help!

The short answer is between 200,000 and 500,000 of your Euros, depending on finishing tastes. Not sure of your maintainance costs in the UK, but count on several thousand a month.

The long answer is you would need to build a detailed business plan, engage an experienced contractor in that process, visit hot studio owners outside of your market area, in order to do a proper cost analysis. As an experienced business guy, you know the importance of doing proper homework.

Thanks for the reply. I do have good links with building contractors and am trying to do as much research as possible.

Actually looking for anyone who currently runs a yoga studio to provide some more concrete figures? Its hard to ask the studios I use as I plan to set up in a similar area and our markets will overlap.

Also, we don’t actually use the euro in England!
