Sex and Masturbation

I have always wondered about this in many ways but never actually got sensible answers.

So here goes the basic question:

What is the difference between sex and masturbation with respect to yoga? What is actually happening to our body when you are performing the act of sex or masturbation? What is happening when you are in the orgasm state? What is happening after the orgasm? Is all this different for male and female?

I know most of not all of you have wondered about atleast 1 of the above at some point of your life? Did you find anything on this subject? I would also appreciate some nice references to this subject.

Yalgaar

To be honest, I wish I knew.

There is quite a large literature about this subject. I think, studying it earns one more wisdom than what a few forum answers are able to give. But that is yet far from actual knowledge …

Guess you will have to find out on your own.

Hi,

I will tell you whatever little I know about this.

Sex is nothing but a union. Male aspect of our
personality unites with the female aspect of
our personality. Both of these aspects are
internal. So when a man has physical sex with
a female actually he is interacting with something
within him only. The Chinese/Tibetans call these
two aspects Yin and Yang. And in India we cann them
Ida and Pingala.

The female aspect is Ida (nadi/channel in left nostril) and
the male aspect is pingala(nadi/channel in right nostril).
As you will be knowing that we do not usually breathe
with both the nostrils at a time. The active nostril keeps
switching for every 2-3 hours depending on your health.
The female (or Ida) aspect is also called Moon or
Chandra (you may
have read ‘the Moon nadi’ or the ‘Surya nadi’) and the
male aspect is called Surya or Sun. This is just symbolic.
We relate the Moon to subtle , soft , serene qualities whereas
usually the Sun denotes valour, anger, agression, war etc.
So this is it.

So at any one time in a day either the Moon (female) aspect is
more active or the Sun (male) aspect is more
active. In the yogic context what actually happens is that
the pran flows through the active nadi. It’s only during
the trasition phase (when one active nadi changes to
another – e.g. From left to right) the pran flows through
both the nadis at a time. But this doesn’t last longer.
Maybe for couple of minutes. At that point of time you are
breathing from both the nostrils at a time. So the prana
is flowing through sushmana nadi.

An true yogi master is able to breathe through both the
nostrils at all times.

Now this was setting the context. Now lets discuss how it
related to sex. Sex is a union. When you reach orgasm
your both nostrils are breathing at that point of time. This
fact remains the same for both males and females. So
at the time of orgasm prana to flow in sushmana nadi.
It doesn’t matter if you mastrubate or have real sex. As
long as you have orgasm you will experience this state
(both nostril breathing). But it will not last for long. So
basically sex is a union of male and female energies
within us. In male sexual excitement relates to the right
nostril whereas in female sexual excitement relates to
left nostril. Ultimately the point is that sex is nothing
but a form of energy. There is a controvertial book written
by Osho (Acharya Rajneesh) titled “From sex to superconscious”
(I guess that’s the title). In samadhi
state also both the nostrils are actively breathing
(Prana flows through sushmana) which also happens
in orgasm. It’s just that the sushmana flowing
experience in orgasm is involuntary and momentary
whereas in the samadhi state this can be brought
under control and can be retained as long as necessary.
This is the connection between orgasm and samadhi.
So in a way orgasm can be thought of as a momentary
glimpse in the samadhi state. Osho probably builds upon
this very concept in the book.

Hope this helps,

Thanks & Regards
Deepak

So to sum up, with respect to yoga, sex and mastrubation are the same things. Because from yogic perspective sex is an internal process (union of male & female energies within).

Thanks Deepak for sharing your knowledge on the subject.

What is actually happening to our body when you are performing the act of sex or masturbation?
you feel pretty good and the body feels pretty good

What is happening when you are in the orgasm state?
You feel even better

What is happening after the orgasm?
Roll over and cuddle or go to sleep

Is all this different for male and female?
Yep

That is the best I got without getting technical or graphic

Intersting concept.

Really appreciable answer

Really nice great

[quote=deepak_nath;21864]Hi,

Yessss, that sounds pretty accurate.

Samadhi is probably akin, amongst other things ,to perpetual (full being) orgasm 24/7, ecstatic bliss. One experiences it ,but is never too caught up in the drama of it either. It is not purely pleasure in itself but a state of heightened super-consicous awareness- you’d need a pretty dilligent (& disciplined) sadhana to get there though.

I don’t see much to separate sex & masturbation ,other than perhaps you mean onemay be with a partner, and the other alone. Actual real sex goes on internally,(in a spiritually evolved neuro-biology ,you could say, where baser energies are transmutated into higher more refined ones) but radiates outwards as love, to yourself, the ,world and other people.

The sushumna nadi is fully matured and open and the mere sight of a peacock or a spiral pattern in a tree is enough to induce samadhic waves of cosmic orgasm and ecstatic rapture. We no longer need to have sex because we hae transcended all of that and it is all going on internally more or less 24/7, waking dreaming.

Supposedly “Enlightened” folk like Ramakrishna probably experienced it whenever they communed with nature, fed the birds, sat on his recliner.I don’t know a whole lot about him but it’s possible some people’s nervous systems are already wired that way, come that way, without the need for sadhana .Merely enquiring - ‘Who am I’ or communing with his cows might have really set him off.
