Shaky during poses

Hi,

I hope someone with more experience can help me. I have been doing yoga for about 2 years now. Sometimes after a practice my legs feel a little like jello. Is this normal? Also during some poses I am shaky while other days I am just fine. Am I pushing to hard? Also I have tons of anxiety. I suffer panic attacks and sometimes get anxious during my practice (Irrational fear that something…anything…bad is going to happen). Could it be my anxiety causing me to shake or could this be a physical symptom of something more serious. I have been to my doctor and have done several test, I checkout to be healthy.

Any advice would be great!

hello and welcome to the forum  my guess is that you will get be offered some direct responses to your questions, but i wanted to share some discussions that we have had on the subject of shaking and trembling within asana practices for you to read as well.

Hi, i personally do not think muscle shaking is a positive thing in a yoga practice… it does not mean there is anything wrong with you… but rather that you might be pushing too far… if you are stretching and they shake… this could be muscle spasms… when a muscle spasms it contracts… and when it contracts it cannot lengthen… so no matter how much you try to stretch… it wont lengthen… Nervous system stuff is integral to this also… Muscles rely on your nervous system to communicate with your brain… they send information back and forth about what is happening in your body etc… soo… try slowing down your practice and starting at about 3 out of 10 in stretching poses … hold for a little while and see if the sensations soften… if/when the do… go a little deeper… but stay in the 3 to 5 out of ten area… what your doing is avoiding setting off the stretch reflex, which sets off the contraction. … If its muscle strength stuff your doing… I can’t help but think maybe your just doing a bit too much… in class just ease off a bit and see how you feel afterwards… hang in childs pose every now and then and check in with your body… Do you ever do Viparita Karani after class? legs up the wall pose… ?

I often shake a little in downward dog. I have super tight shoulders so I figure it is due to that and the effect of strengthening the muscles. Seems to take me a long time for my muscles to warm up and loosen up. I’m sure everyone has also felt that kind of “shake” or shudder that sometimes happens when doing poses that work the abdomen too! I’m sure it is normal. Shaking AFTER class would most likely be from fatigue I guess.

Thank you for your replies! It helps to ease my mind. I haven’t tried legs up the wall after my practice. I love that pose so maybe I will give it a try. I will also try slowing down my practice for a bit to see if it helps with the shaking, it will probably help more with the anxiety I sometimes get during practice too.

i love this forum! Thank you!

This forum is great - it really does address all problems. I shake too x

Hi!
Have you been practicing on and off for 2 years or every day?

Maybe too much stretching can cause your legs to shake. How how long it lasts? Do you do SAVASANA?

Yes, your mental fear might cause your shaky legs. I used to have terrible pannic attacks… now they gone
