Sore Hamstring

Hi,

I stretched a bit too far and believe I pulled my hamstring. It’s not excruciating but I can feel it.
Any tips for helping it get back into shape. I’m still doing my practice but every once in awhile I can feel it.

Thanks

Just be gentle and it will pass after some time. Every time ive had small injuries i was gentle on that particual muscle and it went away after some time. If it gets worse rest for some days.

For me there is not enough information to craft a complete therapeutic reply. Please provide additional information including symptoms, location, duration, etcetera as well as your current practice, fitness level, and health.

OK. I was in a stretch, wide feet and going forward down to the floor. I felt a slight thunk in my hamstring close to the buttocks. No pain at the time.
Next day I felt stiff down my hamstring. It felt tight when I walked. Not so much pain but tightness. So it seems better everyday. During my practice I cannot stretch on the left side as on the right side. If I go too far on that side it hurts.
I do a Vinyasa flow practice 5 days a week. Is that enough? i’d be glad to supply more.

I personally would avoid any fiery asana practice when there is a pulled muscle. A gentler practice would support the immune system and its efforts to repair the muscle.

Consider what you are applying topically to soothe the muscle tissue, what you are eating to support the immune system and what you are avoiding (eating) to prevent inflammation.

In terms of asana, assuming it is only a slight pull to the hamstring, I would suggest supta padangusthasana twice per day (am/pm) for 9 breath on each side for three rounds going only as far with each leg as the weaker or less mobile of the two legs goes.

You may add epsom salt baths to your routine, use hydrotherapy on the area during your shower, and get the recipe for the turmeric beverage from your teacher.
