Spondelolithesis(sp?)

Mukunda,
I have a student who has spondelolithesis, her L4 and L5 disc are the issue. Her L4 is displaced forward. What is the risk and are ther poses she should not be doing?
Thank you in advance,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

I will contact Mukunda and let him know you are waiting for a response. Sorry for the delay!
Chandra

Lisa,

I would especially recommend regular practice of my Joint Freeing Series described in my book Structural Yoga Therapy. And with this condition the best is to ask the student what poses do not feel good. Spondilolesthesis varies and can be anterior or posterior thus back or forward bending can be problematic. Must find out from her. Twists are often aggravating but not always. In all cases she needs to elongate the spinal column before all motions. For instance in cobra pull the chest away from the pelvis then do the posture. This can decompress the spinal column and alleviate problems. Always increase their intake of water to 1/2 body weight in ounces that is another important factor here and in many lower back conditions.

blessings Mukunda
