One of my friends is a yoga instructor at our college, and she holds private sessions in her home for her friends. I attended several of her sessions, but she doesn’t explain a lot about what type of yoga she teaches, what the names of the poses are, etc, which is why I want to get into an official yoga class. In the meantime I’ve been using the Maran Illustrated Yoga book to practice the positions she taught me and to learn routines. I usually practice for about 30-45 minutes, nothing too strenuous. I’m trying to not do anything too outlandish because I don’t feel like I really know enough for home practice yet.
I’m a 24 year old female, weighing about 20 pounds more than I’d like but within normal range for my age and height. I’m less active than I used to be (hence the 20 pounds) and I alternate between trying to eat healthy foods with lots of fruits and fresh veggies and eating a lot of frozen pizzas, pot pies, and pasta, because they’re quicker. Not a great diet, and I’m working on changing that.
My diet stays pretty much the same on weekends, so that shouldn’t be a factor. My sleep is also pretty much the same. I sleep 8-9 hours usually, though I can consistently (for weeks at a time, I once tested it to see if I would “catch up”) sleep 11 or more if I don’t set an alarm.
My general health isn’t great (migraines, moderate scoliosis, and recently very irregular periods). The pain tends to start within seconds or minutes of stopping yoga and is centered at and below my navel, balanced between the sides. It is usually more cramping, but can be sharp for a few seconds at a time. If I actually get an upset stomach, it can last for hours. If not, it usually goes away within half an hour.
Anything else you need to know? Other than this one thing I’m feeling really great, I think because of the yoga, and if I could kick this one issue I’d be absolutely thrilled.
