Style of Indra Devi

We all know of Krishnamacharya’s greatest students-- Jois, Iyendar, Devi, Desikachar-- and their particular various methods of teaching. All very disticnt from one another. But actually, I am not sure about Indra Devi’s. From what I have seen, her method was not like Jois’. Would her style be closer to Iyengar, Desikachar, or something else completely different all together?

I still find it fascinating that one teacher could teach each of his students such different methodologies.

From the one book of hers that I have read, I feel her practices in her later years were more in line with those of Desikachar. It’s very gentle, adaptable to the individual, and oriented to restoring peace and health to people regardless of where they begin. However, I am not familiar with any of her earlier work, or any of her students that still teach.

Out wardly these methodologies look very different especially as people like to make them different or highlight the differences , like pepsi and coke , having studied in three of the styles (not devi ) I can see the commonality . You may also like to look at Ramaswami who was with Krishnamacharya the longest , and A G mohan. Dont forget K taught over many years so what he was sharing earlier would differ from what he was sharing later , his ability to share the practises that the individual needed would mean that people would no doubt come away with outwardly different forms . Just a thought

I would say that Mr Ramaswami and Mr Mohan’s styles were closer to Mr Desikachar’s, which is why I did not mention them too. They also, are giants of the industry.

I think the inward similariities of the 3 main students (Jois, Iyengar,Desikachar) are evident. I also think the differences of the 3 main students are evident.

Devi remains a mystery. Where does she fall? Perhaps K devised a specific style for her as a woman.

Senin I have not come across any of Indras students , I have always assumed it to be similar to what desikachar has shared . But Like you Im not sure.
