Super brain yoga

Questions

  1. what is the name of this asana ?

  2. what are the detailed instructions to pratise ?

  3. can this be practised anytime during the day ? how many times

Thanks

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I’ve never seen or heard of that before. Looks like a hybrid of yoga and chinese medicine (the video mentioned the earlobe as an acupressure point).

The video mentions the benefit of this practice is to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain. I wonder if studies have been done with nadi shodhana on develepmentally disabled kids.

Does any one has done this and has any positive experience ?

I cannot find any poses that resemble this in any books ?

This guy selling a book worth $25 that contains just one exercise.

I been told people in India has been doing this in Hindu temples for years…

The underlying concept appears to me to be clarity.

The exercise features deep breathing and deep knee bends in addition to the apparent stimulation of energy channels or meridians on the ears which i suppose is meant to stimulate the head in some fashion.

You pump freshly oxygenated blood up to the head through the breathing and deep knee bends to clear out the “garbage.”

Apparently it’s all the stagnant filth accumulated in the head which can have a negative impact on cognitive performance.

I’ll say it again, and I might just say it in the future.

“There are 43 million ways to skin a cat.”

A well instructed regular yogasana routine will accomplish the same end, clarity, and most likely surpass this exercise in overall benefit. But If you like the form. Go on with your bad self.

Nice to see the sciences of yoga getting some pub though.

Mel : Thanks for the reply.

I been doing this for 2 weeks now. While I cannot claim any noticeable diff. I can say deep knee bends really helping me

Dear Layman,
Super Brain Yoga is not a traditonal, authetic and original form of Yoga. In fact it is like giving a brand name given to a practice of an asanas performed while pressing a acupressure/acupuncture point. What it has been presented in the video is a practice of a asana known as uttakatasana while pressing a accupressure/accupuncture point at the lower ear lobe. Hence, it is safe to say that the practice shown in the video is a part of what is known as Acu-Yoga (style/form of Yoga combing principles and practices of both Yoga and Acupressure) i.e. pressing an acupressure/accupuncture point while performing an asana.
Instruction of Uttakatasana (while pressing acu…point) are:

  1. Keep a your feet half to one foot apart.
  2. Hold your lower ear lobes with the opposite hands.
  3. Breathe out and bend the knees till the thighs get parallel to the floor.
  4. Repeat the third step 10 to 25 times.
The asana can be practised 30 minutes after having a liquid, 1 and half hour after having a breakfast and small meal and; 3 to 4 hours after having a major meal.
For maximum results, it may be recommended to practice the method twice a day.

Instructions for doing uttakatasana says your feet should be close and hands up.

But this one reminds more of what worshippers do in temples in India…

There are no such practices i have ever seen in any Hindu temple. Yes but as a punishment to the kids in schools for not doing their homework.
This exercise may help in increase blood circulation in legs and release tensed buttocks.
Love & Peace

You haven’t seen doesn’t mean such practise is not there

Dear Layman,

Being born in India, living in temples and travel to Himalayas there is no way that i would never notice such practices in any Hindu temple.

Yes its possible that some sect may have been practicing it.

Please read the comments of HealthandYoga for your clear understanding.

Best regards.
Love & peace.

Layman
It is correct that in the original pose of Uttkatasan instruction do says to keep the feet joined and raise arms over the head. But here the person/group demonstrating what they say “Superbrain Yoga” might have modified instructions to suit common man. I believe that slight modification is not going to make major difference in attainment of pottential benefits of the asanas. Moreover, we Yoga teacher do slight modificatoins to some asanas in our our Yoga classes to make it easier for the beginners.

Thanks HealthAndYoga!

What is the sequence of standing poses like utkatasana in a yoga program ?

How long after doing utkatsana(assuming one is doing that alone in the morning) one can take water/food ?

True, Its a common practice in South Indian temples, particularly while praying for Lord Ganesh!
