Supta Baddha Konasana Machine

Does there exist some kind of device that would pull the knees down towards the floor, when you sit in Supta Baddha Konasana?

I can sit in this pose for 45 minutes and the knees gradually move more and more towards the floor, so I get more and more open, but with a little help, I feel they could go much further.

I find this position very comfortable.

Also, when laying on your back with your feet up against the wall, in a frog pose, does this have a Yoga name?

Yes you can use strap but this will again take your knees to certain level down. You can use weights on both thighs to take it further. example is http://www.yogaencapital.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Baddha-Konasana-con-Elementos.jpg

I guess you are talking about “salamba viparita karani”

Hmm, it’s a bit difficult to balance weights on your knees if you don’t have a special product for it, which I don’t see exist.

Instead of lying on your back, try lying on your front then you are using your own body weight to encourage further opening in the hips.

Right, of course I know that, but I find I don’t relax that much when I’m in that position. It’s like one is active and one is passive.

Yoga Sandbags.

You know, that’ll work for me. Excellent, Thanks.

Actually you are doing asana “Malasana” in lying position so you can call it “supta malasana”. Supta in Sanskrit means lying position.

But I am not sure why you are doing in lying position whereas you can do this is sitting position. Is this because you are unable to sit in squat position while keeping heel touching the floor ?

well one more person doing this posture here.

Supta Baddha Konasana is not a sitting posture. It is a lying posture.
Additionally, it is a passive posture which by design allows the release in the hips and groins, gradually over time. It can be enhanced with sandbags but it is not required for efficacy in the pose.

Baddha Konasana IS a sitting pose. In such a pose the knees themselves should not be pressed toward the floor. The actions in the pose are what facilitate the opening. I am not aware of a device that will make this so other than work - both physical and emotional since the pelvis and hips hold some powerful stuff.
