Supta padangushasana confusion

with supta padangusthasana a, b, and c, are you supposed to reach your forehead to you leg just for a second in between each pose? or just at the start? i’m not sure how much it matters but i remember doing this in yoga classes and am not quite sure when to do it.

thanks

A & C take chin to shin and hold 5 breathes

yeah okay, but im asking if you are supposed to reach your head or chin to your shin for only a second in between poses? like if you cant reach that far normally or without a bent knee or something… or are you supposed to bend you knee in this pose if you cant keep it straight?
idk im a bit confused because i remember just doing something like bringing my head to some part of my leg for just a second in between poses.

If you can bind big toes with fingers stay there. ( do not bend knees ) you stay 5 breaths in a and c.

About bringing chin to shin for 1 breath this is done in standing version utitha hasta padangusthasana from C to D… Assuming ofcourse you are talking about ashtanga primary series.

For a beginning or intermediate student and in what style or practice please?

um either both beginner and intermediate? i just want to know how it’s properly done, but i think most people just don’t do what i’m talking about.

the style is ashtanga.

i’ve been reading some books and stuff though so i think i know how to do it properly now.

thanks everyone

Best for an Ashtanga teacher to respond however…

Advanced students and some intermediates may do this after having opened the hamstrings. To do so without that opening strains the lumbar spine and Sacroiliac joint.

The other way to find out an answer to this is to do both and feel which one is wholesome, helpful, and appropriate for YOU. I personally do not do that in Supta in my practice but I am not adverse to doing it periodically when it can be done with integrity.

no, you not SUPPOSE to do it in SECONDS… there is no MUST in “housholder” yoga practice:) do what is good for you or what your teacher has advised
