Sushumna nadi and Ajna Chakra

Hi Guys,

Namaste :),

I’m obsessed with opening of the Ajna chakra as I’ve been reading a book on the same since several days. Also, from what I’ve learnt is that the activation of Sushamna nadi is instrumental in the awakening of the Ajna chakra. I think Ajna is the king of all chakras and I shall achieve the impossible in both the physical as well as the spiritual worlds with it’s awakening!

I’m already disciple of an enlightened self-realized Guru, but am unable to carry out spiritual practices in his midst due to geographical boundaries. Hence, I follow his teachings/preachings thru media (print/eletronic)

Kindly advice on how to awaken/activate the Ajna chakra/Sushumna nadi as soon as possible so that I’m well into my spiritual journey of enlightnment. My ultimate goal is to achieve self-realization and to be one with God. I want moksha. Kindly advice.

Thanks & Kind regards,
Shahvir

Hi, its certainly the most interesting chakra and the one that gives you a lot of verifications. It is good to combine practice of Ajna with heart Chakra, the two go well together for the enlightenment end. Obviously, not at same time.

A few things first…it helps if you are physically tired as the body is less of a mind distraction.

It helps further if there is a full moon when you practice (the yantra for the Ajna Chakra is 2 petals holding a full moon)

Also, just before sun sets is useful

The method I use is

Have no premeditated intentions
Lay flat on back
dark room
close eyes
draw eyes slightly inward, only slightly…(can feel strain so relax them and try again, this strain passes eventually when your eyes adjust in time to the new muscle change)
look into the darkness ahead in alignment with the tip of the nose (so its a straight line to tip of nose in the darkness is where you look) which is easier flat on your back but can be done sitting up…i choose flat on back
Look for a tiny white/yellow light in the blackness
keep looking till you see it.(this s your mission, the little light)…it will come and go come and go come and go, do not cease looking for it, this is your focul point and nothing else should be in your thoughts, just that.
when you see the light, at some point it will get bigger, when it fills the space of darkness, the Ajna chakra eye is open.
What happens after that is ?, you may see whatever you are presented with.
What ever you are presented with you should look past, by this I mean a quick observation and no more, be relaxed still and not pay it any great attention,. And when you are awake later, dont pay it any attention in chattering about it unless its Ishvara (later explain)
you will move to the next presentation. Intuition is powerful when eye is open and can be trusted usually.

IMPORTANT…If you are distracted in this process over any reason, noises in background, an itch, mind thought diversion etc, dont get irritated because the steps you have made do not get put back to the beginning, there is a collection of process that is still there, if you get me, just continue as if nothing happened.

Another format that may happen is this
you will, whilst looking for the little light, suddenly be aware of a nice slow journey into the darkness that has an even pace to it, you may journey through a twisting turning array of movement, red and black or other colour. Stay with this movement, you will then see it slow to a stop and be presented with some one. You will instinctively be aware of whether it is good or not so trust this. It may be Ishvara, seated, lotus position in meditation, a person in appearance fully.
If it is Ishvara you will be drawn to it and not want to look past it and from there you will most likely awake Ishvara and then Ishvara will join you by resting in the area of the Ajna chakra, a tiny figure. This is good. and when you awake you will have the Ajna chakra permanently open with Ishvara sat there for you to see as a person figure with your own eyes. When Ishvara is with you like this you must keep your mind clean and bright and uncluttered by unnecessary thoughts like anger, greed, lust, desire, lies etc or Ishvara will go back. When your mind is pure shall we say, Ishvara gets bigger and moves out of the point between your eyes and iis bigger and ahead of you. This is very good.

Important
When you start to look into the space I mentioned, it should be black and eventually, the little light can be seen easily as a tiny dot in the darkness.
BUT if you dont have a black canvas and see flashing lights, and colours it may mean the Ajna is blocked so take steps (look on net) to unblock it.

Warning
Continuous unprepared or incorrect method, use of struggling to open the Ajna chakra (if blocked as well) can over stimulate and cause a mental problems, also illnesses (look on net) You need to be working with an unblocked chakra, you need to be in a deeply relaxed state, you need singular focus with no mind interference of an aim as to what you want to do with it.
Many people have suffered through incorrect use of the Ajna chakra, it is also difficult to correct mind problems that occur by yourself without seeking pro help so be careful wuth this chakra. Mind problems are a racing of the mind with endless talk to others that is over the top. Inability to sleep,…Illnesses can be as serious as Brain tumours and abcesses in the brain and jaw/face areas. So please take note.

If you fall asleep, no matter, do it again when its suits you. It took me several attempts, I kept falling asleep. I did see the liitle light very early on 1st or 2nd attempt but kept falling asleep.Eventually, you do it… Be very relaxed about the entire approach.

Finally, dont do this if you have had a bad day, upset, angry, irritated.
Be patient about it
Remember that what you may be presented with might be weird or scary in the Astral plane, you must look past these things. If you get scared, you need to tackle your fear out of the Ajna state and think about it.to consider you r fear and how to deal wiith it. If you see/meet relatives, look past them as if they mean nothing to you.
Looking past means paying no attention to them and innocently carrying on looking past the object, kind of. I remember one Chinese discription of dealing with looking past…cut down with a mental sword…it made sense to me.

Good luck.

Dear Kareng,

Thanks for response.:slight_smile: Well actually following is my experience whilst meditating on the Ajna;

Many times I see a cloud of greenish white light on a black canvas (the canvas is dark orange when there is bright sunlight outside with eyes closed). Other times I see a ‘granular’ cloud of dim white light. Sometimes, I see small cloudy rings of brown colour moving away into the black canvas.

When doing all this, most of the times I feel a definite pressure on the Ajna(it feels as if someone is pressing my forehead with his thumb where the Ajna is located). Also, many times I use Shambhavi mudra (diverting the eyes upwards to focus on the Ajna between the brows) to meditate on the Ajna.

Are the above symptoms/experiences a sign of progress, or can it prove fatal to my mental stability? am I moving in the right direction?..more so since I do these practices all by myself without the presence of my Guru to guide me!

Also, I’ve read that activation of the Sushumna nadi is instrumental for a fruitful and blissful meditation. kindly elaborate on the same if possible and simple method/s that can be adopted to activate the same.

Is the Ishvara you mentioned a representation of God Almighty?..if so how does he/she/it look like?..can you describe His form?

Finally, is it safe for me to continue with the above practices especially in the absence of a Guru to guide me. How do I unblock the chakras?

Thanks & Kind regards,
Shahvir

Seeker 33 has kindly offered help

Shahvir, The method I have described is a good simple method that is practiced in India and China and no doubt, other regions…There may be different methods like sitting up or even leaving eyes open, but I can only tell you mine.

Always, for now, do it in the dark so there is no mistake in identifying the little light

The little light may be a different colour, I dont think that matters if it is greeny/white or pinky/white…etc, I may be wrong but I dont think so.

Blockages, in my humble opinion Shahvir appear like interference, the black or violet/blue canvas has flashes of lights all over, too many lights, no dark canvas.
Like a television screen might have interference on it instead of a nice blue screen or black screen.

A little circle here and there or a bit of this n that is okay, but massive action of lights dashing around is perhaps a blockage…cloudy parts that go or do not entirely cover the canvas are ok

For me I have noticed if I am not relaxed properly this creates a less black or blue
canvas.

About Ishvara…,Ishvara is your inner Guru. Ishvara is the minds connection with Perusha, the spirit which is beyond the mind. You will see Ishvara according to your faith, at the time. BUT also, there is another peculiarity, if for example your a Christian now but all your previous lives were Buddhist, you may well see a Buddha.

Ishvara can be found seated by using the Ajna Chakra. How this happens is when you start looking for the little light, you are suddenly aware of a different format to what you normally might expect. The format is red streaks intermingling with the darkness, a slow smooth even paced journey takes you there. There is an element of involuntary action in it…You will see at the end of the journey a seated figure, human in every way. Cross legged in meditation.
You will see and wonder who is that…you will then move right close to Ishvara who remains in meditation. You will, quite naturally be looking in detail at this 'person, analysing their looks etc… Then involuntarily, your sight is drawn back as you watch Ishvara levitate, turn its back, travel down to the end of its space and turn around and levitate towards your eye. It will then enter the Ajna space and remain seated there. …Even when you are awake walking round, you will be aware and see a little Ishvara, cross legged, popping in and out as you go about your business. The Ajna is permanently open while Ishvara is there.

When your mind it clear, happy, clean and bright Ishvara leans forward, looking out to what you see, when you are even brighter in mind, Ishvara grows bigger and leaves the Ajna and is ahead of you. Ishvara can be man sized or the size of your real eye. The bigger the better as it means your mind is right. Or to put it another way, your mind is simple, uncomplicated and happy.

I have never felt any pressure in the Ajna area, never in 40 years of practice. I have heard it said before but dont know what that means.

In my method my focus is for the light, I dont pay ANY attention to body feelings, breath, heart beat, itches, sounds, nothing but highly concentrated focus for the light, that all. Perhaps they are there but I dont notice.

Along with these things you should spend your day being nice in every way.possible, every day, always. I do slip up but try to attain that as much as possible,

One other thing perception is powerful in Ajna you will ask a question about something you see, briefly to yourself…like what is that… and the answer comes immediately back to you.

Dear Seeker 33, thanks for help…but as mentioned in my earlier posts, I’m already an ordained disciple of a self-realized Guru. The only hurdle is I’m unable to practice yoga in his presence as I reside in a city and have professional & social commitments and difficult to find time to travel to his ashram for continual spiritual practices which requires a disconnection from the physical world for a definite amount of time!

Dear Kareng, your description is detailed and helpful. I shall include the methods described by you in my yogic practices for spiritual quest. Thanks for support.

Kind regards,
Shahvir
