Teacher Training - recommended courses

Hello!

I am hoping to become certified as a Yoga instructor and I’ve been researching some pretty exciting certification programs. I was hoping to find out if anyone had been through any of these programs before, or if anyone had heard anything positive (or negative, I suppose) about these programs.

I am interested in becoming certified in Ashtanga yoga to begin with. The following are the courses I’ve been looking into:

Semperviva Yoga College - I believe this one is based out of Vancouver, but I am primarily interested in their certification program that takes place in Greece.

Frog Lotus Yoga - I have been looking into the Costa Rica certification program

Source of Yoga - I have been looking into the 200 hour classes that take place both in Mexico and in India

Sonic Yoga - I have been looking into the Ashtanga training program that takes place at one of their studios in New York.

I am learning that the general governing body is the Yoga Alliance - can I trust that I am investing in a legitimate Yoga certification program if it lists itself as Yoga Alliance certified?

Any comments are welcomed  Thank you!

Could I just ask why you feel it so important that your program be certified by The Yoga Alliance?? They are just a group of people who have decided to make it their business to certify others…

Ask your Higher Self which program is right for you. Train with a Master if at all possible so you know the information is coming from the Highest Source.

I do not regret the decision I made to do just this and have never looked back. I know that the information given to me is coming from the Ultimate Source, the Ultimate Certifiable body, not an arbitrary group.

Good luck with your decision.

Does your own regular teacher no do a TTC?

Yoga Alliance probably useful if you want to teach in USA…just easier to get to get insurance and teaching jobs…

Isn’t that the point?

Yoga alliance is the benchmark in Canada as well.

I teach at 2 studios that require Yoga alliance school certification and registration.

I asked my higher self and I went with an ad hoc organization that was established to create a set of minimum standards from which a teacher in training might establish a strong foundation from which to base a practice and advance into the discipline with at least having touched on a lions share of yogic efforts that many ‘grandfathered’ teachers might well choose to omit.

Very good question. Yoga alliance keeps a Registry of Yoga Schools that meet their 200-Hour and 500-Hour minimum training standards. At least a plus base and the RYT certification will allow you to put the RYT after your name and this bears some weight of credibility. You will also be able to use their watermark on business cards and your web site.

Sadly the Better Businsess Bureau is anemic and will be of little help in giving you a plus minus base. But if the school is a RYS than Yoga Alliance at least recognizes them and you will get your ticket.

So continue your due diligence and surf the web for any forum references that might critique the program. The RYT ticket is a significant financial and time commitment so listen well to your higher self? I’d also listen to my lower self and make the best gut decision after weighing the information available. Good luck
