The current economy

I’ve noticed a few stress-related threads and am wondering how everyone is faring in this economy. For those of you who own studios or yoga practices, how has the economy affected your business? I know that our studio has seen a rise in practitioners and the place has never been this busy. My business coach is recommending yoga to his clients as some of them have seen their companies suffer as a result of the poor economic environment, which is causing a lot of stress in their lives.

While I don’t own a yoga studio, my personal revenue is down about 80%. If I wasn’t moving towards a sustainable lifestyle, I think I would be very stressed out. I can’t imagine how stressful it is for people who have been living beyond their means and are seeing everything crashing down. While I think it’s a good thing as the way we’ve been living is unsustainable, my heart goes out to those who are suffering.

I’m doing quite well, thank you.

Haven’t seen much change in my part of the third world. Classes continue as usual with the same amount of people, no increase or decrease either.

However, I know that some of the larger studios in my city actually are suffering, they haven’t seen an increase, rather a decrease. Perhaps the increase will still come as the world recession hasn’t hit us yet fully in SA.

Hi there… From Sydney here. Retreats usually ran off-shore like in Bali seem to be a bit more challenging to fill-up. Retreats within 1.5 hour of Sydney CBD have been more popular - cheaper alternative and closer to home.

Studio classes seem to be thriving - students seem to find comfort coming in and hanging around community - nice secure environment.

Online classes on Live Yoga Life has had an increase - people appear to be searching for helpful stress-relief tools available.

Just an update, according to this morning’s papers it is now official, South Africa is in recession for the first time in 17 years again. So we will most probably start to see a surge in stress levels as the effect of this will start to filter through. And most probably the trend of other countries will repeat itself here as well.

i dont own a studio per say but i am quite close with the owner of the studio i take classes at. He is doing quite well. I feel it is all about where you are from. His studio is in Calabasas ( the city next to Malibu) and has a clientele that is clearly unaffected by the economy.
