The main thing all yoga teachers should know when begining to teach yoga

yoga by defiinition means union. Union between mind and body union between eathr and spirit union between any force in the universe

yoga originally consisted of 1 posture lotus posture with Ujjayi breath and the focus of being thoughtless but mindful. Something not easily understood in the west

Asana is the physical pose down dog updog crow plow utkatsana this is the use of Ujjayi breath or Prana to guide the body through a moving meditation

please spread the word of meditation to your students it is missed in almost every yoga class in the west and needs to be taught and practiced amongst teachers

All my class descriptions clearly state ?yoga asana?. I tell the same thing to all newbie?s: ?I?m not a yogic guru, there are 8 limbs to yoga we will practice asana, pranayama and ten minutes of Transcendental Meditation techniques at the end, once you?ve learned everything I have to offer you may want to move on and explore further?. Although some people like to come and do their asana practice in a group environment or don?t have adequate room at home.

I have found that most students who practice yoga look at it simply as a group exercise class and do not focus on breathing or the meditation aspest at all.

And most yoga teachers themselves do not even practice it. I am doing yoga teacher training right now and cant believe that I am the only one doing a daily meditation with my asana. Yoga is all about the breath and meditation. The poses are simply designed to help us hold our meditation longer and reach a deeper level of relaxation

The west has taken there version of it and turned it into a group exercise class with music and constant chatter amongst the students who do not even sit still in savasana. I will do my part to teach this to my students. I suggest all teachers in training take some time and get back to the roots of yoga before teaching it

Yoga is comprehensive 8 limbed scientific system, if you eliminate one of the limbs you can no longer correctly call what you are doing yoga.
