Third eye

Hi there,
I v been practising meditation for several months so far, it is healing my body and minds, …recently, something strange leads me to a new sense. I dont know it comes from my practice or from other matter, i just feel the third eye is going to be opened, or i want it to be opened…but i dont know how, i just feel it will lead me to a new level of meditation and health healing, (i suffer from depression and ptsd, anxiety and a female trouble). so i v checked some information, i still feel i need good advices and suggestions on opening the third eye.
Thank u so much.

The best way to awaken your third eye is to do third eye meditations and utilize the shambhavi mudra.

belovedk,
In my experience the third eye is not lierally an ‘eye’. Our concept of an ‘eye’ is conditioned by the eyes with which we see. Ordinary eyes are sense organs which act like a camera to carry visual images for brain to process. A sense organ is distinct from the sense; just as the equipment and the cabling is distinct from the electricity they carry.

When our ability to deal with the senses becomes advanced we don’t need a sense organ to sense. We can ‘see’ and understand much deeper aspects of the things without using the ordinary eyes, as if we have acquired a ‘third eye’. Eventually the third eye stops working on any sense data and allows a direct perception unaided by either the brain or the mind.

Why the third eye is considered located between the two eyebrows and 2 inches inside is because that is the location of ajna chakra. The normal thought-making process takes place in the front lobe of the brain, close to ajna. In direct perception, not only though-making is suspended, but the roles of the brain and mind are reversed. Instead of creating knowledge from the thoughts, they become receiver of knowledge gained through ajna. Thus, ajna becomes our new creator of knowledge that is deeper, subtle and profound. Calling it a third eye is the closest we can be in describing to a layman. I believe that one’s spiritual progress brings about its ‘opening’ but any methods to make it open should be viewed with a caution.

Hi Belovedk,
It is worth considering including some physical asanas such as ‘Sun Salutation’ sequences.

For some people suffering from depression and anxiety, going deeper inwards can sometimes bring one’s awareness to even greater contact with underlying inner conflicts, and sometimes these can deepen one’s apparent symptoms.

This may not be a problem if you are working directly with a teacher who knows you well and can give you advice as you need it.

It does not happen for everyone suffering from depression, but it is good to be aware of it.

By practicing more vigorous physical asana sequences, this can release endorphins and counteract the darker sides of depression.

However, some people find the effort to do this too much, so they just prefer to sit.

Please note that my advice may not apply to you as i don’t know you, and am only going on the few words you mentioned to describe where you are coming from.

Best Wishes,
Dave

Learn to meditate

Concentration upon the third eye is essential:

I totally agree with BurrenYoga. Maybe when you practice sun salutations you could do them a bit faster to estimulate pingala or yang aspect. And when your heart rate come back to normal you can perform asanas very slowly and with full awareness. At least that has work for me to calm down and get rid off anxiety.

What exactly do you mean when you say that your third eye is opening? What is this new sense you are experiencing? Perhaps too personal question but if your third eye is really opening then just keep doing whatever you are doing though I doubt this can happen in just a few months of meditation unless you have really good karma from your efforts from past lives.

What kind of meditation are you practicing? Any meditation with the sight and mind focused on the eyebrows center stimulate ajna chakra

Well I have no deeper concept about the third eye though I’m practicing since few month and even teaching meditation. Let me know and guide me briefly if any one is kind enough.

Or may be I would have felt that but as I m not aware of the term so I could not name it…

This is interesting. Is there anything out there talks about this more in detail?
