Timely wisdom

You have not shown me examples and I can see we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. And I don’t feel I “fight back” when my beliefs are being questioned. I merely respond. I don’t respond with violence. You and I Surya just don’t see eye to eye on many things. That’s OK. Keep it civil, keep it kind, and we can share views and exchange ideas.
Further discussion between us is futile. I know you like to win debates, but I don’t care to engage. No point. Again it’s OK! Really!

We are sidetracked here and I’d like to just allow the beauty of the Dalai Lamas words to resonate instead of arguing about it.

It is not really a question of winning a debate than to discuss something honestly and sincerely and together coming to the truth of the matter. Unfortunately, I feel your ego gets in the way a lot of the times, and you either chide me for disagreeing with your views which you think are naturally good, beautiful and loving and cannot understand why anybody would not just accept them, or you terminate the discussion when you feel you no longer can maintain your position.

You do indeed fight back Lotusgirl, just as I do and everyone else does. Everybody fights to defend what they believe is right. You are no different.

Anyway I just did give you examples to support what I said. You said that nice people would not get themselves in situations where people are violent to them. I countered that with the example of peace loving Tibet invaded by China. You said that people who practice unconditional love and compassion cannot be violent and destructive. I countered that with the example of Christianity which is founded on that ideal, which is yet full of history of violence and destruction, even at the helms of saints.

Now can you continue to maintain these positions?

No Surya, I just honestly don’t see the point. It is truly exhausting dealing with you. Literally. I terminate because we get nowhere. It is that simple.

I am not a perfect being. I strive to be, but I’m not. Does my ego shine forth at times. Indeed it does. What of your ego Surya?

Your examples have no meaning for we know not what was in the hearts and minds of the men who did such violence. If they truly felt love and compassion they would not kill in the name of God.

Simply being nice is not foolish. Nice means kind. Kindness is not foolish.

Lotusgirl ji,

You are the ego. There is no such thing as “my ego” You are the ego telling yourself, “my ego” You are the ego telling yourself, “If they truly felt love and compassion they would not kill in the name of god” Similarly I Surya am the ego. The only way to breakthrough the ego is to abide in sthita prajana(still consciosuness)

I think it is safe to say your interpretation of love and compassion as simply being nice is simplistic and flawed.

Have you heard the saying, “Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind”

“If they truly felt love and compassion they would kill in the name of god”

My quote should have include NOT kill in the name of God.

Again you have taken my words out of context. You must break this bad habit of yours.
i.e.

I think it is safe to say your interpretation of love and compassion as simply being nice is simplistic and flawed.

My response to being nice is when you said it was foolish.

Have you heard the saying, “Sometimes you have to be cruel to be nice”

Yes, I have. And if you want to follow your own logic here it should read,“Sometimes you have to be cruel to be foolish.” As you said being nice is foolishness.

Sorry I had realised that I had forget to type not. It was not taken out of context but it was a typo. I have corrected the original.

I have never actually said being nice is foolish. I have said that thinking that unconditional love and compassion is being nice is foolish. As sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

Do you believe god is pure love and compassion? But in god’s creation there is also pain, hate, greed, lust, destruction. So either god is not pure love or compassion or god’s love and compassion i not just simply being nice.

In my religion even the destructive and terrible manifestation of god as Shiva/Rudra and Kali is pure love and compassion.

Yes I do believe God is pure love. pain lust hatred greed…they are all man made.

You still have taken my comments about nice out of context. I only shared that the definition of nice is kindness.
