Transition from regular wheel pose to forearm wheel pose

For some reason I can’t seem to transition from a regular wheel pose to the forearm wheel pose. When in the regular wheel pose, I stretch my arms lift my head but when it comes to putting down your forearms, I can’t figure out how to move my lower arms/upper body properly to place my forearms on the ground. What could I be doing wrong? May it be lack of muscle strength or openness and if so, where? Has anyone else had experience with this and if so how did you transition?

From regular wheel to forearm wheel pose transition happens when you rest your head on the floor first then you take your lower arms around head and interlock fingers.

You my have issue with range of motion of shoulder joint extension and that is why your elbows may not be touching the floor. In this case you can improve with posture like virbhandrasana or shoulder extension as shown below.
