Trikonasana

Hi All,

I am able to roll the trunk up on one side, but I am not able to on the other side(the trunk is leaning towards the floor instead of ceiling)

Am I doing something wrong here? because i find it so natural and easy on one side, but not on the other.

thanks in advance for your help.

Everyone is going to have slight differences between one side and the other, because we have naturally adapted to our own habits and patterns of daily life, or because we are simply born with a different balance. There isn’t anything wrong, this is totally a normal way to start out in yoga.

By what you say, I can’t visualize exactly what the problem you are having is, so I cannot say if you are doing anything incorrectly. If you can find a teacher nearby to watch you practice, they can distinguish if you need modifications to prepare for this asana, or ways that you can strengthen or stretch the side that is more difficult for you, so that you become more balanced altogether.

Hello DKA,

I too am unable to visualize what you are referring to in your post.
It sounds like you are able to rotate the torso on one side of the pose but unable to do so on the other side. AND on that second side the torso is falling out of the plane of the pose which is formed by the legs.

Generally speaking, students tend to overlook the alignment in favor of the depth. IN other words they place their hand on the floor regardless of how distorted the torso has to be to do so.

I suggest you try using a block or two under the hand of the down arm, getting enough height or lift that you can rotate the torso. And of course do not go farther on the easier side than you can on the harder side as this can often foster the very imbalance the student currently manifests.

Hi DKA

Sounds like scoliosis, if so how is the difference is Janu sirsasana?
