Trying to find the right yoga for me

I am relatively new, I have done some yoga in the past for basketball, i still play. however I have gone to some classes recently and the teacher was surprised as to how advanced I was for rarely ever doing yoga. So I was looking for a video for when I can’t get to a class. Especially because the class at my gym is very laid back and I need that but I am also looking for a physical workout as well as to expand my mind as well as increase my flexibility especially in my hips and groin areas. I was thinking about Yoga For Stress Relief with the Dalai Lama. And than I didn’t know what else to get. Or what type of yoga to look into. I am also pretty tall and was looking for a longer mat. I was trying to find some online but had no luck. Does anyone know where I could get one. And would have good measurements for someone 6’9 thank you

Interesting stuff you present DF.

I think I may have already suggested a video but if I’m having memory lapse…Patricia Walden’s Yoga for Beginners. I don’t have an affiliation in that regard but you will get critical alignment points and not come away injured, assuming you do not approach the practice aggressively or with violence.

As for the mat, try this one but avoid the black please, or this one or perhaps these. An 84" mat should suit you.

Dumbfound,
The best Yoga Styles, for a person with athletic and sport background, are Asthanga Yoga, Vini-Yoga, Asthanga Vinyasa, Anusara, Power Yoga and Iyenger Yoga. I do not think that yoga class like Stress Relief with Dalai Lama will suit you and your needs.
I recommend to practice any of above styles of Yoga under guidance and supervision of a certified and experienced Yoga teacher either in a group class or on one on one basis for a few weeks and; continue the same till you get time to take follow up and/or further sessions.
However, if you still persist to practice only with the help of a video/C.D., do try the same as recommend by above contributor.

There are so many dvds out there and I’m not sure what you are looking for so it would be hard to recommend… but you could check out video clips and full descriptions of a vast variety and levels and lengths and instructors etc. of yoga dvds at collagevideoand totalfitnessdvds.com. Right now totalfitnessdvds is having a big sale until July 4. (it’s my favourite place to shop ;))
