Twists for Detoxification

Ever since I started doing yoga on a consistent basis, (meaning more than 4 times a week) I felt the healthiest I’ve ever been. I also never got a cold or flu, while my friends and family were constantly sick.

Yoga twists are excellent for cleansing and detoxifying. This is especially true if practiced on a regularly. Toxins can build up in the body and eventually cause illness and disease.

Twists are great to massage your organs. This allows the organs to work more efficiently and effectively by cleansing and improving circulation throughout the body.

I’d definitely recommend to include twists in your yoga practice, especially to do them at home. You will notice a difference in your health.

Lexi

Anyone who practices yoga in a class setting has likely been told this by their instructor.

I’m sorry I am just curious if there is more of a point to your post? You have not offered anything up for discussion, just simply stated facts as a blog, magazine or book would. Am I correct assuming that a forum is for discussions? I am not trying to be rude or offensive, I just don’t know how I should respond to threads like this?

Hi

I’m just making a point about twists. I would like to know your opinions about twists for detoxification and if you notice a difference in your health.

Hi Lexi!

I don’t know about twists per se, I think most of my daily practices contain twist in them anyway… so bonus! But I can say Yoga has been a great and definite benefit to my health and well-being. I cannot function the same without yoga. Yes, I agree with you, a definite difference to my health.

Hi Lexi

I guess I’m on the border with this–I practice yoga between 4-5 hours a week and have never been so sick as I’ve been this year! I’m pretty distraught right now, as I try to determine what I could be doing wrong. Twists are definitely a major portion of the practice each time. I caught a virus in January and it was 5 weeks before I was 100%. However, I developed a head cold a few days ago, and was a couch potatoe for two days, and think I am almost recovered. So maybe in this illness, yoga contributed to my recovery. I will let you know. Take care.

Oh goodness Lexi, twists are contraindicated for many, many types of conditions and many, many people. Please, use more care in putting up these general, vague and anecdotal posts on our forum. There are so many levels of students reading here, from new to 30+ years of committed practice—those without a larger framework of safety and knowledge could be harmed by following your directions to twist, to invert and much of the rest that you have posted. I am concerned about you continuing to post here, if you are going to continue on in this same manner. As a moderator here, I am getting messages from other members expressing similar concerns about your posts.

Nichole

Please be careful while performing these advanced twists.

As with any exercise, you must express caution before attempting to try a posture. You do what feels best to you and your body;)
