I had two people tell me of experience in the same class, one women with MS who is feeling a twitch in her “bad” arm, like a shaking, and was a bit concerned about it. She said her “bad” leg did the same thing the first class she had with me (2 classes prior) and in general she is feeling more awareness now of that leg. The second women said she has in the past and in the beginning of that class in question felt the same (I am assuming) twitch in the core of her body. She described it as when you exert your muscles too much and they quiver, except she was feeling it in the core and just in the opening “grounding” of class. she said it doesnt last as long now as it did when she first experienced it, maybe 3 or 4 classes. She was fearful at first and wanted to go see a dr. but seems fine about it now. I told them both I felt it was ok, a good thing, maybe an awakening or kriya. What do you think? was that the right way to guide them? They were more curious then fearful I felt by the time they asked me about it.
This is indeed a sign of prana. AS prana awakens within the individual it performs functions that are not normally associated with pure physical health. The prana at this time is more properly called Shakti and it acts spontaneously to release deep seated patterns of tension. It will unwind the five bodies (koshas - described in my book SYT in chapter 6) in any sequence to free up conditioning patterns. It may release physically as in the case of twitches that resemble unwinding of nerve tension; emotionally as spontaneous discharges of feelings without associated external triggers; increased energy flow to suppressed activities such as sex; changes in diet to more organic and/or vegeatarian; and natural inclination to meditate.
The best a teacher can do is to become familar with this process by reading more (see my website for recommended readling list) or inquiring into those traditions (Tantrik, Kundalini, Laya, Siddha or Integral Yogas) that encourge spiritual awakening not merely asana practices. blessings Mukunda
