Vasisthasana rib pain

One of my students said that she experiences pain in her side facing the floor while practicing vasisthasana. What could be the cause of this and what, if any, suggestions do other teachers out there have to remedy? I have her modifying with placing her knee on the floor but she would like to work out of this into a fuller expression of the pose.

thanks!

Is this bilateral? The student is having the same pain when doing the pose on the right AND the left?

Is there similar pain in Bujangasana, Adho Mukha Dandasana, Adho Mukha Svanasana? Similar pain in Vira I or II? Any pain in Gomukhasana?

Typically, for those who want to find out what it is, there’s assessment involved. And in this case there’s not enough intake for assessment.

Hi Gordon! Thanks for replying.

She doesn’t experience the same or similarly related pain in any other poses, just Vasisthasana. She describes it as a sharp muscle pain and occurs unilaterally. It is a mystery to me and the knee down modification works. I’ve asked her to talk to her naturopath about it since I am unable to help but am curious as to where this might be coming from. Mysteries are always intriguing!
