Vata

Commentary - Hi Yoga Mukunda, Intuitively, if nothing else, I would think that long holding would be good for Vata predominant situations, once the person is calmed down and or warmed up enough to be able to hold a pose, so I am surprised at what you are saying (see quotation below).

“As for epilepsy student best is to treat them as normal student.
Especially encouraging watchfulness/mindfulness or vipassana meditation and
breath awareness, not pranayama. All normal asana practices should be fine
just not holding poses too long which is not for Vata predominant situations
such as epilepsy.”

Can you comment? Thanks, D

Long holding of asana will displace vata. The exception is someone who is following Patanjali?s guidelines in YS II, 46-48. This must be done carefully over a long period of time. To relax the effort while doing asanas is key for vata balance. I find that especially for epilepsy, vata is easily displaced; one needs caution and ability to feel the underlying prana that vata balance seeks to create. Without an ability to feel the prana, vata balance is a concept, not an experience.
