The Vedas, meaning the books of knowledge, are the sacred scriptures of Hinduism and considered to be revealed by the divine and also the oldest scriptures in history. They are said to be composed of the highest truths the Vedic sages directly experienced in states of superconsciousness in meditation. They are collection of the wisdom of hundeds of sages during Vedic times. They are the origin of much of India culture, Indian philosophy, including Yoga.
There are four recognised Vedas: Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda.
