Very Sick

Ok so as I’m sitting on the sofa miserable from the dizziness and sickness I have today…I was wondering if its ok to do a yoga practice? And if so what type of practice do you do? Considering I still do not know much about kriyas and cleansings…let me know what is normal for a sickness and yoga!! Thanks!!

AlohaNeen,

Practice patience. Yoga will not speed your recovery. Sit and breathe at most, meditate, otherwise just rest and wait until you’re better. That’s yoga too.

 Thanks Siva!! Yes Patience is coming to me very slowly!!

Christine,

What sort of illness are we dealing with?

The basics are that the central nervous system is most effective when it is supported by rest, calm, quiet. There are other pragmatic things to do from a Yoga standpoint when that Yoga is a complete program covering meditation (breath/light), lifestyle (how you live), nutrition (Ayurveda/Chinese Medicine, asana, and pranayama.

You may of course practice Yoga. Asana would have to be very specific based on the what’s of your situation. Thought, there are practitioners that would continue through just about anything and while the dedication is admirable, the sense is not.

Gordon, I have just a cold and cough, not a bad illness…although I’ve never dealt with dizziness!! But you know just a viral infection, some type of cold!! But nonetheless, feeling terrible!! I’m much better today! My throat still kills me. I did not practice yesterday, as I still have 2 small little guys around I have to take care of!! And rest was more important to me then how to practice. But today I will practice and I’m so ready for some yoga.

My question was just a ponder of sorts. I mean, I was sitting on the sofa just doing nothing and the thought just popped into my head about other yogis and what they do while they are sick? I only know about yoga and not ayurvedic practices; I do wish to learn, but that will be a later time. So I thought I would just find out.

Yogis keep their immune systems functioning at high levels, or so we hope

For a cold, rest is best. However some supported postures may be helpful assuming they can be done with very little effort on the part of the practitioner.

Then the use of meditation as Siva mentions. Add to that the use of certain ayurveda and chinese medicinals are also helpful (in the view of Purna Yoga).

Yes rest and the sooner you get better the sooner you can go practice yoga! Take care.

I sure figured that one out!! Thanks YogaGirl44!!
