In my recent post i shared that viparita Karani means inverted lake.
Now I’ve learned that this is actually a mudra as described by G Samhita…
Do u guys know this as a mudra or asana?

CM:
Yes there is Viparita Karani Asana and Viparita Karani Mudra. In mudra you do the vk asana a number of times with cocentration of different chakras. You can get the details from the book “Asana Pranayam Mudra Bandha” by swami Satyanda Saraswati.
But the only caution I give about the asana is. Among the following postures, I find the first correct as the second one cloud my mind.
Correct Viparita Karani posture

The following gives me terrible feelings
Much depends on the style you are practicing. In Iyengar, Vipareta Karani is legs up the wall. It is a restful pose, to be done without effort. I teach restorative yoga and use this quite often. But as Layman has mentioned above, it is also the prep pose for sarvangasana in other styles.
If I were to say to my students that we were going to practice Vipareta Karani, they would take their mat and a blanket to the wall. I have not taught it as a prep pose for Sarvangasana. The waters get very muddied with asana names. Each style or school tends to name things differently which can be confusing if a students practices different styles.
And yes CityMonk, it is also a Mudra. In Vipareta Karani, you engage in Ujjayi Pranayam with awareness flowing from Manipura to Vishuddha chakras.
thank u guys
i do it accordingly to Hatha Yoga Pradipika, 10-15 minutes as a mudra, numbs my legs:)
