there are many paths.
are you more of an intellectual type? or are you more emotional?
would you prefer to prepare with lots of study? or would you rather dive in head first?
what intrigues you about meditation?

intellectualism is largely a hindrance and not benificial anyhow so that’s great. have you read “the power of now?” it may be a great book for you.
on a similar note, you may enjoy the commentary of moojiji who has a youtube channel. he basically helps others practice self inquiry, a notable method of attaining/being zen.
i recommend the ayp teachings for dedicated people, although you’re not the studying type so you might enjoy simple pranayama more. just google that.
if you want to know what kundalini is like from a person who’s raised it, check out my youtube channel. i’ll be posting the precise techniques there soon.
i’m out.

You will never learn meditation.

And why is that ?
I think you should become familiar with the eight limbs of yoga and possibly with Patanjali’s yoga sutras. The eight limbs really describes both the techniques and the stages of a meditation practice. The yoga sutras goes into this in much more detail, but you have to be careful because they are difficult to understand and subject to a lot of interpretation by the various translators and commentators. Most people who get into this wind up reading several different versions and then you can start to get a feel for it.
In my opinion the eight limbs of yoga is the original blueprint for meditation practice and everything else is more or less a variation of it. Even kundalini (which is a specific practice that I don’t recommend for beginners) can be placed into the eight limbs framework once you understand it.
It can be difficult for beginners to see how the first two limbs, yama and niyama (observances and avoidances) is part of a meditation practice, but they help to reduce mental and emotional disturbances that can hinder a meditation practice. It’s fairly easy to see how the remaining limbs are both techniques and stages or states that describe a meditation practice. In a yoga context, if you want to learn meditation, this is the traditional and still the best route to follow.
The Eight Limbs
Yama - restraints
Niyama - observances
Asana - posture
Pranayama - breath control
Pratyhara - sense withdrawal
Dharana - concentration
Dhyana - one pointedness
Samadhi - transcendental insight
I agree, you cannot go wrong with the Yoga Sutras. It is more a Manuel on meditation.
Learning techniques of meditation is the easiest thing you can do. Just get yourself a book or read the countless tutorials you will find online. Google, “Meditation” and you will find countless of web sites and videos.
