My high school religion teacher, Sr Rose Marie, would often remind us that saints are ordinary people who met extraordinary circumstances – that what is available to us (grace, calling, etc) as ordinary people is greater than any glory we would seek for ourselves.
"True compassion does not come from wanting to help out those less fortunate than ourselves but from realizing our kinship with all beings. If we are willing to stand fully in our own shoes and never give up on ourselves, than we will be able to put ourselves in the shoes of others and never give up on them.
