What does yoga have in store?

Okay so ive never taken any yoga classes, in fact im prob. one of the most inflexible people you will ever meet lol. I cant even come close to touching my toes. …ive always dreamed of it

But any way i was talking to a friend about yoga the other day she she suggested that i do it. But like i said i have no idea what to expect. I go to the gym regularly, i like to have my body lean and fit. One of the questions i have is how will it effect my muscle definition? Will it replace the gym? I’m really hoping it will because i often get very frustrated at the gym. Between the loud noises, crowded spaces, grunting of the nearby meathead and fighting over weights i get very stressed and just leave some times lol. Aaaand im guessing it will allow me to touch my toes?

So to sum it up, what changes will i see if i switch from the gym to regular yoga?

Hi Darrell and welcome!

First, there is no such thing as someone who is too inflexible for yoga.
Second, only you can decide where yoga can fit into your life and gym routine.

So, instead of delving too deep into all of the various aspects of yoga my advice for now is the following:

Find a teacher you connect with, give it a try for awhile, go with the flow and see where it takes you.

Peace,

Kiran

Thanks, I figured that would be my best bet. Ill just have to give it a shot. and see where it takes me. i’ll do some good old fashioned research online and see just the the outcome of a good yoga routine is. thanks again =]

namaste & welcome darrell

joining this forum is a good start of your yoga journey. hope that you can find a teacher who can inspire and motivate you to go for classes regularly. have no expectations and be patient. you’ll be surprised by how it changes your life & maybe your outlook. the flexibility part will definitely improve with time.

From my own experience…yes, it will allow someone to touch their toes. And, I found better muscle definition while loosening and lengthening them. I did not stop going to the gym and yoga has definitely enhanced my gym routine.

The best part is that it can have a great side effect - mental clarity. Many people use that opportunity to get better insight into themselves, and their surroundings.

Well worth it.

Well this form certainly influenced my decision on going. It sounds more beneficial than i thought. Im definitely going to have to research on yoga classes around here. What are the different types and what should a beginner look more into?

hi darell you may consider doing gentle yoga classes to work on you flexibility and maybe a basic hatha class for a start.
