I am really trying to put myself 110% into my yoga practice and move to a more yogic lifestyle and I was wondering how I should change my diet. Right now I eat a little of everything and a little junk food. Any suggestions?
This was suggested to me and I am trying to follow it.
But I am a yoga newbie so take it for what it is worth. There are others on the site that can give you a whole lot more info that I, actually just about everyone on the site could give you more info than me.
A little of everything? You should hold off on the shards of glass . . . ; )
One thing I lose sight of when I eat lots of green leafies and not my usual allotment of snacky junk is my salt intake. I’ve never actually measured what it is normally or what it should be for my age/sex/size etc., but I’ve temporarily lowered my ability to hydrate by eating straight from my garden without a sprinkle or two of NaCl, and it was not plesant or conducive.
Surrounded by the standard American diet, I can forget that revulsion from it is insufficient; a positive plan is the best bet. Not to mention how un-yoga it is to be pushed and pulled by revulsions.
Thank you both so much and thank you for the link. I need all the help that I can get. I need to clean up my diet and I know I will be a lot healthier. Have a wonderful evening.
In Purna Yoga™, the yoga in which I practice, train, and teach, there are four components. One of those is nutrition/lifestyle.
There are, in that construct, things to eat and things to avoid. It is an entire class in and of itself. However we begin with avoiding CATS - caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and sugar. For most that is a very good (challenging) beginning. When that is cozy then avoid anything processed. Nothing in a bag, box, can, or package.
In terms of what to eat, it should always be organic (when possible). Then there are three basic elements - hydration, oxygenation, and alkalinity. Without prattling on, you can probably run with this on your own.
The overarching principle is that a diet should not be balanced it should be balancING. The human being should be balanced after the eating.
Thank you so much, that helps a lot. I’m sure this will make me feel a lot better when I change my diet.
Thanks so much for the great links, these will be very helpful.
