If you are not pooping soon after waking up maybe you need to look at your diet, check you are getting enough fiber etc.
Try warm water with lemon juice followed by a few rounds of Nauli practice…that should get things moving.
When I drink coffee I have no trouble going. It’s like clockwork 20
minutes after the first sip. So coffee does have a laxative effect,
right? Or is it psychological?
Hot water and lemon with Nauli I must try.
Thanks,
I’d not confuse something taken medicinally with something consumed as a part of a regular balanced diet.
A reliance on something medicinal (laxative, in this case coffee) taxes and inhibits the system while not addressing the problem - ergo it’s a band-aid not a healing. If the digestive tract is not functioning properly then that is a call for something on the emotional and physical levels. The former is for the student to discern with guidance (when needed). The latter can in part be addressed by yogacambodia’s comments above.
Beer
Coconut flour is high in fibers. The highest in fiber is the low carb one if i recall correct its 60 % vs 40 % approx. Start slowly to adjust. As too much can make it worse.
Also when we sit on a toilet for some or maybe all of us its not a straight passage, then u can use a little footstool to raise your feet and then it will be more like when you sit down on the ground. That will make it easier to poop.
What do you eat generally in a day?
I’d suggest eating more fruits, wholemeal bread, etc. If this does not work, then perhaps see a doctor. though if you don’t generally feel constipated, it may not be a major issue.
Warm water, first thing in the morning. According to Ayurveda.
In my younger days I viewed coffee and tea (caffeine) as harmful substances with adverse health effects but adding them into my diet later in life proved beneficial in many ways (allergy inhibitor, anti-inflammatory, promoting mental clarity, headache/cold/fatigue alleviator, etc… I?ve not recognized negative side effects other than overdoing it causes a jittery/anxious/sleep inhibiting effect. Of course one needs to be honest when evaluating use of such substance since it becomes quite easy for the mind to rationalize addictions, similar to what Gordon mentioned treating symptoms and determining underlining problems are quite different.
Like you I drink coffe before practice in order to poop :-D. For me it has always been difficult to go, even now after switching to a vegetarian diet, cutting down on dairy etc. I do get enough fiber and water during the day and still… Anyhow, like Ray I beleive that coffee in moderate amounts can be good for you. But if you really want to stop, try drinking a hot, non-caffeinated beverage in the morning, and see if you can go without the caffeine. A classical ayurvedic thing is hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice and a teaspoon of fresh ginger.
Good luck in the bathroom!
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
This week I did without coffee before the 6h30 mysore class and I was able to poop almost as well as with coffee. I only drank a ginger yogi tea with a slice of lemon while sitting on a zafu at the coffee(!) table. Since I live in a house I also took a quick walk in the garden, gazing at the moon while the yogi tea seeped.
