Where does your mind travel

I understand the idea of a clear mind during yoga…but I believe that is close to impossible considering all of our influences…where does your mind go during your practices

You are correct. It’s pretty tough practicing with a clear mind, especially when you have an over-active one to begin with. I practice ashtanga and over time I am learning to focus my mind on my breath, movement, and drishni. Difficult at first, but getting to be second nature now. This also helps focus my mind in everyday situations when I need it - like making a putt when it counts

well if it’s helping you with your short game I’ve gotta look into that

5 strokes off my game since I started. No joking.

a better question for me is where doesnt it travel, LOL. just bring it back unless you want to let it go

Hopefully, you mind goes no-where, at least when compared to chasing the 50-60,000+ thoughts we have throughout the day, fantasizing and following thought streams out of the present moment.

just pay attention to your own awareness. In each moment there is joy to be had in the breath and body. dance w shakti. realign the spine and float the magic back into your awareness…breathe…ahhhhhhhh

Actually I’m pretty dang good at controlling the mind when I set my mind to it.

I get this little grin on my face and I’m like "Watch this . . .

watch what? oh never mind. thought were about ready to fly up into a one armed handstand with all that adrenaline on your chinney chin chin.

So, your mind can control your mind, but can it stop yourself from hysterical laughter?

One handed arm stands To me this would just be showing off. I’ve found no reason to develop such ability at this time. Although I do remain open . . .
So, your mind can control your mind, but can it stop yourself from hysterical laughter?

Yes. Well not really the mind perse as in thinking instrument. Its the Will.
When I’m in the circle . . . there is no hysterical laughter. A smile perhaps. The Hysterical laughter comes later. After I’m done in the circle.

showing off is for jack asses. doing what feels extremely natural and joyful or expressing ones inner self is different.

Back on topic. I like to think of my mind as my mothers hand bag. Then I send it around my body collecting all the pain and toxins in the body, then expels it through the breath, sometimes with a deep sigh of relief or joy, sometimes with an icy breath that has no feeling.

you really can honestly say that your mind goes no where else? I find that hard to believe…do you have children?
you really can honestly say that your mind goes no where else? I find that hard to believe…do you have children?
depends on what i’m doing.

If I’m in the “Circle” I have complete control via the will. The mind does not waver. Thoughts arise occasionally. But the focus remains where i direct it.

If it’s any other activity sure the mind fritters about and I follow along sometimes. But - ultimately I have control over it. I can get back to task if I want.

So no I’m not in a state of perfect unwavering concentration at all times.
The only time I get to that state is when it’s my intention to do so and I do what is required to get in that state.

With other forms of work I just try to remain present in what i’m doing. Key word . . . Try. Doesn’t always happen. Sometimes I get balled up in thoughts or the mind fritters about a little bit and I follow along.

But because I focus the mind, and practice meditation, during the work, my focus and concentration is strong if I call it.

Personally I do not feel that it is so much clearing your mind as it is not acting on the thoughts that pop up just acknowledge them and let them go. Beyond that your thoughts should be more of an internal nature

The more you do this the longer it lasts and the easier it gets

And before anyone asks? yes I have kids

What is the challenge with children?

Not sure exactly.

It is just that findingtheway324 the question and I thought I would answer before I was asked.

:rolleyes:mmmmmm where does my mind goes???just let it flow where ever it wants to go…and i try to get back to breath and awareness all the time even in the tiniest little things…breath …centre…aware…and you start realising that stillness is always there…one does not have to seek it…just …

nicely put
