Where is my brother...Questions about life

Hi everyone : My brother passed away in Jan. He took all abuse from my father when he was little. He turned to alcoholism in his mid twenties and never grew up productive. I feel sympathy to him and but was too little to help him. By the time I grew up it was too late.

I wondered what must have happened to his soul ? where he is now ?

Some people say you carry some of your sins to your next birth. I see people suffer all the consequences for their actions in this life itself …

Can some one explain me what they know about life.

To paraphrase Patanjai. The seen is for the sake of the seer - for experience and liberation.

So I see life like school; you, me, your brother, each and everyone of us - is being educated and tested - sometimes in a crucible of fire.
Sometimes we fail and need to stay in the same grade.
Sometimes we fail badly and get sent down.
Sometimes we pass and advance.
Eventually we graduate.

Melchizedek : Thanks for that thought.

Bhagavad-gita says:

yam yam vapi smaran bhavam
tyajaty ante kalevaram
tam tam evaiti kaunteya
sada tad-bhava-bhavitah

?Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail.? (Bhagavad-gita 8.6)

People say that in the last moment before death you experience - like in a film - the most important moments of your life. So, everything you do in your life accumulates and creates a certain consciousness at the moment of death, and this consciousness or state of being carries you to your next life.

Aksara : Thank you!

I didnt fully understand.

Whereas our body is obviously temporary our real identity as spirit soul is eternal. So in this world the soul is changing bodies, going from one situation to another. How can we know what our next situation is? It is not whimsically, that fate just throws us into a new situation, no, we are creating it ourselves. Whatever we do in our lifetime results in a certain consciousness at the moment of death, when the soul prepares to change its body. The quality of this consciousness determines our next destination.

Thank you Aksara!

Very interesting.

Layman, sorry to hear about your bro… it is sad… and i know that you feel helpless and even more sad about it. But think that you should not really do anything. We come to this world and we have same ability to exercise ( or not) our will… he chose to drink…and that was his choice…u could not exercise your will to prevent him from drinking…

he suffered an abuse … that might give him some credit to be in heavens (according to Christianity)

the rebirth is a Buddhist belief… according to ones karma one will get a lower rebirth (in to animal, reptile, etc) or a favorable rebirth (human, bodhisatav, etc)… again for those who have suffered there is a credit…

i would think that your bro is at the place he believed he will go to…

“According to your faith be it unto you.”

CityMonk : Thanks for the kind post!
