NOTE: please learn how to ring a bell to bring someone’s awareness to the surface & not to jar the nervous system. When I first started meditating my nervous system was so sensitive seemingly small innocuous sounds would startle me badly. Later though I found I was able to simply be aware and ride slamming doors & even car backfires but it took some time before this started happening (a few months). Feel compassion for the n00b meditators!
& here is an on-line “mindfulness bell”, works well as long as you have a laptop or desktop handy. Maybe an Internet-accessible phone, iPhone & the like?

thank you for the warning! I noted that some people ring the bell so horribly annoying and the others do it very nicely.
thank you for the links, but I can browse the web too…
The thing is that I can not hear the bell online…so I’d like to ask people what are they using and is it sounds good.
I also want to know that. Thanks.

Do you have speakers available for your computer? & if so, is the volume up or are they muted?
(I’m using Firefox web browser/Ubuntu 10.4/Thinkpad T61 and the sounds work just fine.)
Hi
I’ve been looking for a mindfulness/meditation bell on the net for months. I saw your question when i entered the same one on google. Then I found the answer!
Then I joined this site so I could tell you:
On “Wisdom Books” on the net you can buy a “singing bowl” with a little tapper, and little cushion. It is the hand held type Thich Nhat Hanh of mindfulness talks about. It’s what I wanted. It’s a zen bowl/mindfulness/ meditation bowl/ bell. I don’t know much about yoga but I know Zen, Tao, yoga are alike. I hope it is also what you are looking for.
Hazel
Oh, thanks! I did not know that this is also called a singing bowl:)
And the website you suggested has a good deals on this bowls
What is singing bowl cushion is for? Stop the vibration?
Thank you
Hi again,
I believe the cushion is so that your little singing bell can sit in comfort. You must practise treating it with loving kindness in tune with your general theory. This is the way of Thich Naht Hanh at plum village. You invite the bowl to sing first with a mufffled sound so as not to surprise it, or other beings, and to awaken it ready for your next invitation which is for it to sing more clearly. Then, when you invite it to sing the clearer sound you first pick it up from the cushion and place it in your hand in such a way that gives it freedom to sing clearly. We all need freedom, even more than we all need comfort. Your little bell/bowl is lucky to be able to have both. This is the middle way of Bhuddism. All the time, keep on breathing mindfully and happily, coming back to yourself at the sound of the bell. Also the emptiness of the bowl is very significant as bhuddist emptiness is spiritual fullness. Is it the same in the Yoga phylosophy? This kind of spirituality is so beautiful, isn’t it? It’s so poetic. Best wishes, Hazel
