Hello all! I took my 200 hour yoga teacher training in December, 2010 and have yet to join a studio and start teaching. The course changed my life and has inspired beautifully unexpected life events. And although I have continued my self-practice and have taught several classes to family and friends, I am ready to share my knowledge and passion with my community. I am not sure how to go about applying for a position as a yoga teacher. Having little hands-on teaching experience, how should I present myself to studios in town? Should I ask to start as a receptionist? Or an assistant? Any direction will be helpful. Thank you.
My views on this have changed over the years.
I believe a 200-hour training is just the tip of the iceberg and so apprenticing with a more experienced teacher is a sound way to begin teaching yoga. Please consider creating such an opportunity.
If you are ready to teach and can do so with integrity and safety (for the students, obviously) then teach at a venue where you feel welcomed, nurtured, accepted, and supported. Were it me I likely would not begin as a receptionist or assistant unless I was doing trainings to be a receptionist or assistant.
