Actually, this is a rather interesting post. It would be hard to argue that the degree to which female yoga teachers and students alike now conform more or less to what might be called “attractive” by many standards of beauty for women in the western world has increased. I have noticed this myself, and being a heterosexual male, am not entirely saddened by it. Frankly, it’s about the one reason I would bring myself to go to a yoga class rather than just practice at home, as is usual. The obvious reason for this is that yoga is now seen by many practitioners not as a way to attain spiritual oneness, but to get a tight butt and slim legs. If you doubt, just Google around a little. Marketing for Hot Yoga seems especially geared toward enhancing one’s physical appearance, but it’s by no means the only style that sells itself with that age old pitch. Personally, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Anything that gets people doing yoga, within reason, is good. And I like looking at scantily clad, attractive women. So there’s that. (BTW, ladies: Any hetero guy that says otherwise is either a liar or hopelessly PC.)
