Why isn't more Yoga like this!?
Oh ok… well that’s the bit of yoga I like… so basically I’m interested in 1/8 of yoga. Also in my country when anyone ever says they are doing yoga, it pretty much means asana and possibly meditation.
That’s pretty much the same throughout the western world(incl. Australasia) at least. It’s a narrow view but no offence it shows they don’t really understand yoga properly.

See, you seem to worship the physcial body, how things look, how they appear. The mistake is to disconnect the mind from the body as if they are maybe perhaps only loosely related. Rather than iintimately related. So you need to work on both (so results should show all-round- it’s a matrix). Okay i’m kidding with you!

Ground we’ve already covered in posts past.
But I’ll dance a second number with you anyway.

Is asana yoga? No it is not. Looking at yoga (and keeping my personal likes and dislikes aside for the moment) it is fairly clear that the practice of asana is but a sliver of Yoga. That isn’t “bad” nor does that make it “not okay to only do asana”. But it is ASANA and thus it is prudent to simply use care in calling a toothpick a forest despite what one’s peer group might do, one’s neighborhood, one’s city, one’s country, one’s society.

If we all simply bleat along mired in the groupthink which surrounds us what possible hope could we have that an independent thought might creep in?

No need to be a sheeple when trend-setter is right there on your platter.

The ‘dancing’ yogi is Baba Ramdeo. This video clip may not tell us that here his audience is very common people whom he tries to attract to yoga. Gordon rightly questions whether this is yoga. Ironically, more than anybody, Ramdeo himself knows it is not.

He has also founded Patanjali University and is wel-versed in Yoga, the science. He creates medicines from formulae in Ayur-veda and is very down-to-earth in adapting Yoga. Being a public personality, he has his share of good and bad publicity, especially when a book is judged by the cover.

Baba Ramdev(are you deliberately putting ‘o’?) does not just teach his audience asanas, he teaches them pranayama, meditation and Ayurveda. He is responsible for reviving Yoga in India in recent times. Due to his efforts Yoga is once again becoming a massive commodity in India, almost all the television channels feature daily Yoga programs now.

There are loads of videos of Baba Ramdev online teaching Yoga and specific videos like Yoga for obesity, Yoga for insomnia, Yoga for high blood pressure etc. Many of them are dubbed into English.

The following is an excellent video on pranayama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Jnra2O9Fc&feature=relmfu

Hi Yogi adams,

"Dands and Bethaks …"
you have correctly named these exercises–as they are called in Hindi.
These exercises were popularised by Wrestlers in India,
These are still prevalent in Indian village ‘akhadas’… a village gym.
These are not Yogic but build stamina, strength and flexibility.

I think the video in the original post does kind of kick us out of the groupthink of what yoga is supposed to be. Based on some of the other posts, I’d say he is a trendsetter. I like him.

Very cool video as a newbie I’m envious of his flexibility.

hes really going for it, great vid
