Yeast Infection

One of my Indian yoga students (her entire family comes to yoga, husband and 3 children)! Has asked me about a persistent health problem she has. She is vegetarian…eats extremely healthy…all homemade food (even sprouts and yogurt) but gets consistent yeast problems…she was told not to eat so many grains…so she reduced them…and has not had a yeast infection for 6 months…however, for the last week, the top (inside and forward) of her vagina has been very dry and itchy.
She asked me about douches with essential oils - I advised against that – essential oils are quite strong and even diluted – tend to be more drying…and since we don’t know exactly the cause of the dryness, I thought not. She asked what I thought about yogurt inside… I personally didn’t think it would hurt and has lots of healing qualities and tends to be soothing, plus the good bacteria, plus moisturizing… What do you think? Om Shanti K

This is beyond my knowledge and experience so my recommendations are tempered with that preface. From what little I know I would suggest she consult an herbal or nutritional advisor or even send it out to esutra@aol.com for more women’s point of view, rather than me. Another idea is to consult book called Luna Yoga it is quite good on women’s issues. The area of the vagina she is reacting to is the G Spot, I would also ask about how is her experience of pleasure during sex? The G spot is quite erogenous but needs gentle and persistent attention by her husband for its pleasure-centered nerves to react fully. I think yogurt douche is a good idea especially if it has healthy culture of bacteria developing in it. Blessings. Mukunda
