i am 65 year old male.i do walk for 4 km regularly in the morning for 45 mts. i have recently started doing yoga for i hour and pranayama for 15 mts.My question is, can i do the asanas immediately after i return from my daily walk? secondly how much gap i should give between asanas and pranayama? please anybody who has sound knowledge about the yogasanas and their practice advise?
Dear ilikeyoga,
Brilliant! Good for you! Everthing you’re doing sounds great.
Yes. You can do asanas right after your walk. It’s a good way to warm up. And if you want to begin by walking yogically, inhale as you count four steps, exhale the next four, inhale the next four and so on. If you become winded at all, then alternate every two steps. So long as it is even.
Pranayama can be done immediately after asanas, or before. However, end your asanas with a few minutes of sarvasana before moving on, and then again after pranayama.
I sometimes do a very similar combination, which I love, however in reverse: pranayama, asanas, and then I go for a walk. You might be amazed at the difference when you take your walk after yoga, especially if you continue with the synchronized breathing.
To your health and happiness,
Siva,
Siva thank you very much for the prompt reply. have nice day
you could always do the vogue thing, where while walking you could stop and strike a pose;)
Good for you. Perhaps you can change your route so that it will take you to a park and once there you can do your yoga in the park and then walk back home and continue with some pranayama and finally some relaxation in sarvasana.
But most importantly, have fun while doing it and remember to enjoy every moment.
Thanks for putting this question here, my dad has somewhat same morning routine & he is almost same age. Thanks to all the answerers, the information is really helpful.
