Had a deep tissue massage few days back an hour after intense Vinyasa yoga session and for the next few days my whole body was in pain.
any thoughts on how long a person should wait before / after the massage.

Hi Jay,
Not enough info to guide you here.
What is your experience with massage when there is no asana practice before/after? Soreness can come from EITHER your asana practice or your deep tissue, or both.
There’s no hard and fast rule. Experiment. Find what works for you.
Hi Gordon
I am going to have a 24 hour brake between Yoga and Massage. Will see if that fixes the soreness issue

Though there should be ideally a gap of 20 to 30 minutes between massage and intense yoga practice. However, I do not believe that cause of whole body pain is only the “GAP” between two practices.
Soreness of the body could have been caused by either Vinyasa or deep tissue massage. Vinyasa practice involves performing sun salutation and asanas in a manner that ultimately help to attain the body a state of balance and alignment. It is quite common to experience soreness of whole body in first week of intense vinyasa practice. It is also possible to experience whole body pain due to deep tissue massage causing mal-alignment of the body after having attained alignment of the body as result of vinyasa practice.
Inadequate intake of protein in the breakfast and dinner in the days of an intense physical exercise is another cuase of whole body pain.
