Yoga and musculation

Hello

I am failry new to yoga, having taken 3 classes and continuing at home.

For now I am doing it 3 times a week, on the same day as I do a little musculation routine with dumbbells. I do youga in the afternoon and musculation after supper.

I was wondering if I can do yoga everyday, while continuing the musculation 3 times a week. Since musculation requires having one day off between courses for the body to repair muscles, I wonder if yoga everyday could have an adverse effect.

If by “yoga” you are referring to the practice of physical postures termed “asana” then it is wise to use the practice carefully. Wise use mandates one determine their intention and THEN plotting their course.

Muscles that are worked to failure do indeed need time to repair and it would be counter-productive to work those very same muscles (actively) before said repairs. If you are crafty then you can alter your asana practice so that you are a) not using the repairing muscles, b) not using active poses, c) not using those muscles intensely, or d) using tools of Yoga rather than tools of asana to assist in the recovery of the musculo-skeletal system.

Having a better idea of your intention would facilitate a better reply.

What I want from yoga is a global exercise to lose weight, and perhaps more importantly gain spine flexibility and good posture, as I have been having back and shoulder problems from computer work.

The dumbells exercises are targeted at biceps, shoulders and deltoids.

I do feel that my shoulders and upper back are having some difficulty maintaining both yoga and dumbbells, but its also why I am tempted to do yoga everyday, to relax the upper body.

What I think is maybe I could do just the streching parts of yoga on the days I don’t do any muscular work.
