Good advises so far. Let me add my thoughts.
First, the OP does not feel quilt because masturbation, but because he experiences a vitality loss. To state that his quilt is caused by an unadmitted prejudice towards masturbation is questionable.
I think this s the greatest point here. Guilt omes from a totally social and cultural point of view, and its the greatest problem with a lot of issues…
I don’t think guilt is totally social and cultural but to what extent it’s physiological I couldn’t say. A psychopath could have been (non ) nurtured that way but I think many psychologists would say that there is a strong genetic basis for that condition, which is characterized by having no guilt. If it is true that the ultimate moral authority is the small voice deep inside us, and I think it is, and that voice is the sounding board of the universe, a microcosm and macrocosm kind of thing or atman/brahman , then it exists beyond the reach of culture etc. The loss of vitality and associated complaints produce guilt because the little voice says no, this is not good. I can believe that for a different person in different circumstances it may not be not good, I don’t know, but guilt is not entirely bad- I wish it on many people who don’t have it. Although I know many people have it that shouldn’t and for them it is life-draining. So I guess I feel a little guilty about not really saying much here. Except that a person should be quiet enough to listen to the small voice and then do that or suffer the wages of not listening - guilt. Namaste
