Is there some advantage to wearing yoga pants as opposed to just wearing shorts/sweats? Or is it purely a matter of preference?
Mostly a matter of preference…find what is comfortable for you…and keeps everything in that should be kept in…sometimes shorts are not a good idea…I have seen somethings I wish I had not seen when people are wearing short shorts…
Also check with the teacher…one of my teachers insists on being able to see our knees…
Try out some asanas and check yourself in a mirror…are you decent and can you move easily and freely?
I wear athletic shorts with compression shorts beneath. For one leg balance poses like tree I have to lift the shorts up and put my other foot on the compression shorts against my leg or my foot slips way too much.
I need to learn if yoga specific clothing offer more friction for poses like that.
Some advantage, yes, depending on the yoga attire in question.
Frankly there isn’t a lot of good yogawear for men. So regular shorts work well. I’ve grown to prefer no pockets as they have extra seams which can be uncomfortable during supine, prone, and seated work.
I also do not care for something too tight nor too loose. One is constricting while the other allows for a bit to much “freedom”. After all inversions are inverted.
Innerathlete if there are no good yogawear i suggest you make your own brand so it will benefit lots of others.
We’re working on that my friend.
