Yoga Bricks, opinions?

Hi everyone,

I’m just getting back into Yoga after a long spell out. I was considering buying a Yoga brick to help me ease back into some old positions and deepen my stretches, I was hoping to get a little insight from anyone who uses them or knows anything about them?

Thanks

Dare I say “Hello Dollie”?

What insight(s) would you like? I use them in my daily practice and teaching.

Hi Gordon,

What material do you think is best? I’ve seen a few made out of hollow bamboo, foam or cork? I’m sure they’ve all go different benefits.

So Yoga bricks aren’t just for beginners? Worth investing in then.

Thanks

Definitely worth investing in yoga blocks. I prefer the cork blocks. They’re much more stable than foam, but not has uncomfortably hard as wood.

Dollie,

I think materials certainly can vary depending on the context or use. For example a solid wood brick for travel would be silly. For that purpose foam will do. For a student who understands the nature of rooting and recoiling in asana a solid wood block provides a deep connection to that which is between human and earth. Things that are hollow; like words, promises, walls, do not have much umpf. Of course a hollow wood is lighter than a solid.

Props only for beginners? Not in my view. At home we have a nice assortment of thingies; mat remnants, chairs with the backs knocked out, belts of varying length, a pelvic swing for travel, 3minute eggs, solid wood blocks etc. Absolutely worth every penny we paid, IMHO.

Not just for beginners … We are all beginners
Cheers

Gordon, what are these - 3minute eggs ?

Something I have used and believe in strongly enough to agree to ambassador the product.

You can view them here.

If they speak to you then PM me and I can help you further.

Had not seen these before…they look a bit pricey! Thanks for the info!

I found them really helpful for a few things; in particular, learning Half Moon. I also like them when I do a seated bound angle to place under my knees. Though the stronger and more flexible my knees get (I’ve had injuries within the last year or so on both knees), the less I need them and I can usually just do blankets now.
I don’t use them a LOT but I find them really helpful for some things.

I find the cork blocks a good blend between the wood blocks and the foam ones. They have some give and firmness at the same time.
