Yoga Classes near you

I have been doing home practice of yoga on and off for 2 years. Been very regular for last 2 months. I learned all of it not from any professional teacher. But I believe I have come to level where I believe I surely need some training from some professional yoga teacher to ensure I do not injure myself physically or menatally to pursue this further.

I have been putting a lot of efforts to find a training class that suits my needs but have not been successful yet. During my search I came across something that I am not yet sure will help me…I will have to make some calls to find out. I thought it might help somebody so wanted to post the following link.

That’s great for people who are in India. Wish it was so simple in USA as well.

Hi Yalgar,

I have been doing Yoga from the last 3-4 years. “Art of Living” is what I would suggest for you. Here is the link you can find information on their USA centers - http://www.artofliving.org/intl/Centers/tabid/139/Default.aspx

In their Basic course they teache you Sudarshan Kriya. I must say, you should try it once.

Google is good too. You should do a post on the forum titled…Any Good Yoga teachers in “list city here”.

Also, I am not quite sure what you mean by “suits my needs” but sometimes it is good to get out of your comfort zone. Since you are starting to incur injuries, I would find a teacher who has a focus on alignment. Even if the style of yoga may not be perfect, if they can relay the basic alignment principles, then you can take those into your home practice.

If yoga is sparse in your area, I would keep an open mind and just go and try a class. I have never done Bikram and, from what I read, I am not sold on it but if I moved to a city that only had Bikram studios, I would at least try it.

Case in point, my background is Ashtanga. Me and my hubby moved 3 years ago to a city that has no real Ashtanga studios but power yoga is huge here. To make a long story short, I went to the different studios and tried out different teachers and I found a few that I like. I mainly practice at home, but I do like to go take a few classes during the week because it takes me out of my comfort zone and I learn new skills.

Back to my point, keep an open mind. Just go and try the class. If you learned something new, go back and try it again. It may not be your perfect class but you can supplement the studio practice with your own home practice.
